Gone fishing

So, I've been working at the same job for the last 6 1/2 years and I think it's high time that I sucumb to my natural wanderlust and desert my flatmate in her hour of need (she's getting married in April - what would you do?). The plan to date is to hand in my notice and travel around south east Asia and Australia for a while before returning to good olde blighty. Or maybe I'll just go fishing...

A bit of a break

Have decided to take today (Saturday) off and have a bit of a rest, I feel that I have been go, go, go since I started my journey and these old bones aren't getting any younger you know :) So I woke up late and have spent the morning sorting out my blog and publishing my photos on the net. For those who are interested, click here to have a look.

Yesterday, I had my first real look at Singapore and it is indeed an amaizing city. I spoke with my Mum on the phone (in Jamaica) this morning and she said that in 1965, Jamaica and Singapore had about the same level of development. Today I am sad to say that Singapore is miles ahead of my island in the sun. The city is beautiful and clean and there are signs of propserity everywhere...

First stop was Change Ally where all the money changers hung out because Charlotte had to convert her "millions" of pounds to "trillions" of Singapore dollars. Then we wandered around Boad Quay until the sound of drums caught out attention. We ran to the OUB centre in Raffles place -this is a combination of offices and a large mall below it (think Canary Warf) - where we were treated to a Lion Dance.

After a yummy Hainanese chicken rice for lunch we walked down Orchard road (think Oxford street) then home for some r&r and dinner.

It's been a wonderful, facinating, tiring week so a day off was just what I needed.

Tomorrow: Church and then the Singapore Botanical Gardens
